Spaniel training and other high drive breeds

Spaniel training Chorley Leyland Wigan

Spaniel Specifics for loose lead walking.

We recently completed four 1-hour sessions over four weeks with Emily to work with our Working Cocker Spaniel, Georgie. Georgie has always struggled to control his excitement in new environments. On a lead he finds it difficult to listen or concentrate and just wants to get moving as fast as possible. Emily quickly identified the best methods for him and adapted her approach when certain techniques weren't the right fit.

We began training in our garden, progressed to the pavements, and by the end of the course, we were confidently practicing in the park. Emily taught us not only how to control Georgie’s excitement but also to understand the reasons behind his behaviour. She introduced effective loose lead walking techniques that have made a world of difference. The progress Georgie has made is incredible, we couldn't believe it!

We had previously tried group training sessions, but the methods weren't suited to Georgie’s needs. Emily, however, tailors her training to suit each dog and understands what will work best for them. She provided us with homework each week and kept in touch between sessions to see how we were getting on, ensuring she knew how best to use our next session.

We are so grateful for Emily’s help and would highly recommend her to anyone with a high-drive, energetic spaniel or any dog needing tailored training. Thank you, Emily!

Douglas - Harness the high energy!

I have done 4 sessions with Emily to help me feel more in control of my high energy springer spaniel. working with Emily has given me a lot of confidence in understanding my spaniel, settling him down in environments where he is over stimulated and working on having him walk on a loose lead. after 4 sessions I feel a lot more confident in continuing with the training and using all the techniques and skills Emily has taught me. thank you very much for your help, Douglas will miss our sessions, especially when he is treated to a pupcone at the end. I would 100% recommend Emily if you want a trainer who takes time to listen. doesn't judge and helps you learn your specific breeds needs. thank you!

Poppy - Working on connection and engagement

"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ !!! I cannot recommend this lady enough. Emily is the most wonderful, understanding and patient trainer I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I struggle a lot with anxiety but Emily is calm and clear with her guidance. A lot of the time, it’s actually the humans that need training 🤭so I find her communication refreshing. Often in the dog industry people can be very judgemental and it leaves you reluctant to ask for help. Poor Emily can’t shake me off 😂 She has helped me so much with my teenage Labrador. Poppy is a failed gundog, who much like her owner… has some concentration issues 🫠 Emily has reassured my methods and taught me a lot of skills which help with every day, ongoing training to keep my loopy lab engaged. Emily is always at hand if I have any questions. She truly goes above and beyond for her clients. The dogs are blessed to have her 💕"

Stanley - Teenage frustration and redirection onto his human

Well, where do I start? Mines a head banger 😂
So I lost my beautiful 8 year old Labrador Maximus in jan this year… 4 weeks later I had another.. my Stanley. I couldn’t cope with the thought of not having a dog in my home and I was so trapped with grief I felt like I needed another fur baby to love. We had trained Maximus quite easily all those years ago… so I naively thought.. can’t be that hard? (WRONG 😂). So fast forward after numerous stressful outings with our beautiful new doggo… I got in touch with Emily. Quite dramatically I may add. Crying for help. I chose the 1-2-1 sessions for four weeks and thought well it can’t make him worse so I have nothing to lose?

Emily is amazing. She’s helped me understand that his “naughty” behaviours are actually normal frustrations for any pup and how to redirect and respond to them - as a result - forming confidence as his owner. It’s taken practice and time but with Emily’s guidance and suggestions we now have a beaaaauuuutifully well behaved pup that listens to his mammy instead of using me as a human size chew toy. To my delight. No more Stanley sized bite marks in my armpits!! (They hurt like helllll)

I knew what I wanted out of training but Emily fixed all the puzzle pieces together to show Stanley… and more importantly myself as the owner how to achieve a fabulous bond. Which I’m now super proud of. The reward based training works. Emily is fabulous at what she does and I can’t thank her enough as weeks ago I was questioning my sanity but also was grieving the fact that I’d just lost my soul dog and tried to replace the dog sized hole he’d left with a puppy - that I thought - “didn’t like me”

Oh I couldn’t have been more wrong. He’s perfect. Emily is so worth it and her knowledge is second to none. Recommend for anyone with any doggo issues or just wanting any type of training. You will not regret it!!

Thank you thank you thank you!!! From me and Stanley! 🥲🐶

Reggie - Problems since fireworks

Reggie came to me after an incident with fireworks last year and needed help with related issues

"We have had the pleasure of working with Emily to help our 2 and a half year old Border collie with real world training. We have struggled massively with lead walking and relationships with walking on a lead due to issues with fireworks and noise. Emily is so patient and a pleasure to have in our home. Reggie is so relaxed around Emily and his tail never stops wagging. Emily has given us so many tips and tricks to help us on our way to getting him more settled in his environment. Having a trainer quite literally in your pocket makes the world of difference and Emily is always on hand to review training videos and helping you along the way with any little hurdles. We are so grateful to Emily for how much she has helped us already and we can’t wait to continue our progress in the new year."

Obi - Teenage anarchy

"Where do I begin to say how grateful we are to have worked with Emily. When we reached out to her for help we had a 2 year old Labrador in the depths of teenage anarchy. Going for a relaxing walk felt like a pipe dream with his lead pulling and lack of engagement. Add in lunging at dogs to try to play and you have a pair of stressed out dog owners who didn’t know what to do next. Cue Emily and her amazing positive approach and we now have a happy relaxed boy who walks beautifully on a loose lead and is working on greeting people to the house in a calm way. We honestly cannot thank Emily enough for the confidence she has given us in walking our dog in a variety of settings. I’m certain our training journey is not over but it looks an awful lot brighter with your help to understand our teenage Labradors brain."
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!"

spaniel rocket recall and behaviour modification

Ronnie's car chasing and Rocket Recall!

My fave part of spaniel recall?……..Flappy ears!
Fab session moving onto the whistle cue

Ronnie originally came after failing to recall in favour of chasing cars so we had to start with ➡️the underlying cause before➡️Then working on overstimulation, hyperarousal and frustration ➡️addressing the car chasing ➡️then working on recall becomes easier!
