Duxbury and yarrow woods stopping at Fredrick's ice-cream shop! Chorley

A favourite woodland walk in Chorley in warm weather when a paddle in a stream is needed or an autumn walk crunching through the leaves or a wander through the pine wood. 

Stopping off at Fredericks (fredericksicecream.co.uk) for pancakes, drinks and icecream - Makes for a very family friendly trip out.

Rivington and The White Lion Wrightington

So many walks at Rivington near bolton - Rivington Pike Winter Hill, Anglezarke, The terraced gardens and a stop off at Rivington Hall Barn – Wedding and Event Venue, for a spot of lunch and a wander around the craft fair. Liverpool castle and the reservoirs - a definite favourite.

The White Lion – Wrightington, Wigan (thewhitelionwrightington.co.uk) is a fave stop off on the way home based in wrightington - a lovely dog friendly country pub with beautifully decorated indoor and outdoor areas. Very welcoming

Based in Wigan,  - up to haigh hall, through the plantations. The monthly Foodie fridays and sunday artisan markets make for an interesting visit. Play park and high ropes for the kids.

Home - Two Left Feet (twoleftfeetbrew.co.uk) is definitely worth a visit and has a dog friendly area downstairs and out into the cobbled courtyard.

Ruff Wood - Ormskirk and The sandpiper pub

On the UpHolland / Orrell border, 19 acres of mixed woodland. Ruff Wood is a haven for wildlife and is an ideal spot for quiet walks and contemplation. A circular walk with the remains of an old quarry in the centre. There are number of wooden sculptures hidden around the woods, how many can you find on your walk around the site?

Canal walks at wheelton - Chorley

An easy flat walk by a quiet stretch pf canal - regular sightings of the local heron, friendly horses, pretty barges floating by - a fave for a relaxing sunday - Maybe treat yourself to a Sunday lunch at athe dog friendly Malthouse Farm Pub Restaurant in Whittle-Le-Woods, Chorley (chefandbrewer.com) or a quiet coffee by the fire at The Top Lock pub Wheelton
